Dear Student,
When you step into the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at Sharavathi Dental College, you are not just learning procedures — you are preparing yourself to become a confident dental surgeon.
Your training begins with the fundamentals of local anaesthesia & exodontia (simple tooth extractions). Here, you will learn how to perform extractions safely, manage complications such as fractured roots, tissue lacerations, bleeding, and even handle medical emergencies in the dental chair. This foundation builds your surgical discipline and clinical judgment.
As you progress, you will be introduced to more advanced surgical techniques. These include:
Understanding oral implantology and its role in modern dentistry.
Another important part of your training is oral cancer and precancerous lesion management. You will be guided on how to detect early signs of oral cancer, manage conditions like oral submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia, and understand the role of surgical intervention.
Beyond surgical procedures, you will also learn about:
By the time you complete your course, you will have received extensive clinical exposure and hands-on training, ensuring you are prepared to handle both routine dental surgeries and complex maxillofacial cases.
At Sharavathi, we believe in preparing you not only as a skilled dental surgeon but also as a compassionate caregiver who understands the responsibility of treating patients with precision, empathy, and professionalism.
